At Faire’s End…

June 22, 2009

In the week that the Fantasy Faire 2009 was open, more than 2 million Lindens (over $7000 USD) were raised on behalf of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  The organizers of the Fantasy Faire wish to thank everyone who visited and donated to RFL, all of the merchants who donated to reserve their spaces and made every effort possible to support and promote the Faire, the RFL of SL committee members whose guidance has always made the difference between success and failure, the dozens of performers who graced our audiences with the gift of music and magic, and the extraordinary army of people who built, blogged, begged, borrowed and bled to take a beautiful idea and transform it into an even more beautiful reality.

For those who think SL is just a game, we wish you had been there to see just how much in error such a perception is.  SL is a living work of art.  The generosity of the people who work, create and (yes!) play there is not simulated.  Lives will be saved because of the gift of their time, talent and money.

The Fantasy Faire 2009 has closed. But the need to Relay goes on.  UNTIL THERE IS A CURE WE RELAY. Please continue to watch this blog for more information about how you can save lives.

And if you or a loved one is battling cancer, find out about how the American Cancer Society is there to help all over the world.  Help and Hope are available online at cancer.org.

THANK YOU

Visitors on the last day of Fantasy Faire

June 21, 2009

Today, after suffering from copious second life problems, visiting the Fantasy Faire became a relaxing distraction. Although my timing means I seldom suffer much lag at the nine SIMs, Sunday found only a few visitors, and time to speak with some of them. While I tp’ed around various sims on the hunt for the Fantasy Faire ribbons, I met some interesting FF visitors. Here are three photos I’d like to feature for you.

6pm on the 21st : Fantasy Faire Gate Auction

June 21, 2009

Elvencourt Gate2

At 6pm SLT there will be an opportunity to grab a rare piece of SL history … YOU can become the only owner of one of the eight unique Fantasy Faire themed gates built my our Master designers and their support team!  These will be auctioned off on the Fantasy Faire Central stage.  Successful bids will go into the RFL donation kiosk & gates will be available for collection tomorrow (Monday).

Personally, I would love the Neko Gate, or the Mer Gates, or even the Via Obscurium Gates. How much of an entrance can you possibly hope for on your own themed SIM or piece of land? Read on for some photos and details on each gate going under auction…

12 Noon on the 21st : The Trinity Sisters

June 21, 2009

Trinity Sisters

The Trinity Sisters are playing an encore at 12 noon today at the Central Stage for the Fantasy Faire. The four sisters opened the Fantasy Faire with a stunning performance of circus acrobatics and fire dancing. They are well worth the encore, and something I’m going to get along to myself. I’ll update this post with photos taken of the closing day event.

The Trinity Sisters perform on rotating trapezes, high wire, podiums and on rolling balls. They firedance on walking elephants and do many very unique acrobatic animations, highlighted with stunning  fireball, poofer, laser and particle effects.

A supreme circus acrobatic fireshow with a mixture of highly spiritual music and cosmic speech blended with universal insight, wisdom and philosophy. All dancing is to spiritual, oriental and easta music of Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Pato Banton, Jimmy Cliff, Cypress Rosewood, Brian Keene, Night Ark. Ofra Haza.

It will be one of  the best ways to say goodbye to the Fantasy Faire this year.

Please come see the Trinity Sisters at 12 noon Sunday 21st June at the Fantasy Faire Central Stage.

Fantasy Faire Auction Extended Due to SL Problems

June 20, 2009

FURTHER ON THE FANTASY FAIRE AUCTION

[UPDATED June 20 8:30pm SLT]

Linden Labs sent out a new notice regarding the need for one of Second Life’s primary datacenters to undergo emergency maintenance tonight.  They will start preparing by dropping 5000 sims offline from 10.30pm SLT.

Because of this … we recommend you do try to bid BEFORE 10.30 pm SLT *just in case* the Fantasy Faire sims are taken offline.

NOTE: We will NOT be changing the End of Auction time again … it will STILL end at 11.59pm SLT

[June 20 6:15pm SLT]

Due to server problems the Fantasy Faire Auction has been extended to 11:59pm SLT tonight.   We apologize for this adjustment and hope that you will be able to log in and place your final bids on any items you would like.  The Auction will not be extended past the new time.  Thank you for your support of the Fantasy Faire and Relay for Life!

Wildest Dreams Come True at Utopia

June 20, 2009

The ethereal gates at Avatopia deliver you to a heavenly place clean and bright. Walk right through phantom galloping horses- you can almost hear the ghostly thundering of their hooves. Here creators give us gorgeous plantings as well as fantasy avatars, apparel and accessories. Atea Avatars has the featured spot here and has transformed the store into a fairy’s garden fantasy. She has a fairy to suit every taste. Barerose Tokyo has fabulous outfits that will knock you out- with prices so reasonable you’ll buy a dozen. Even though my av is a female, I had to have the Brotherhood of the Lost Temple outfit for males- it looks great on me! Thanks to June Dion for that one! And what can say about Luna Barak’s Moonstruck when I hate to gush? I’ll hold back and just say get over there to see the most incredible avatar fashions this side of the universe. Meet you there!

Tinies and Dragons and Wares- oh my!

June 20, 2009

Ok-here’s the thing about Via Obscurium. You either get it or you don’t- and I hope you do. Here the uncategorizable conglomerate in a mix of styles and forms. Have a walk through- something is sure to delight you. In SL you can’t just say “eclectic mix”; the phrase doesn’t do justice. Featured designer Luna Mcmillan at Luna’s Boutique dresses the area with some incredible trees- look in the store for her builds too! Have an urge to be a tiny porcupine? I did- and I found it at Wynx’s Whimsical Wonders- and guess what- I had to decide on the color! If you love cookies you’ll find a friend at Dragon Forge- but dont be scared! Erin Padar is just a little dragon – he’s very friendly. I caught him dancing at one of the concerts here- and it was a sight to behold. Sorry you missed it- guess you just have to come see for yourself….like right now. He’s baking fresh cookies tonight and can’t really stay long.

When You Swim With the Fishes….

June 20, 2009

Don’t be afraid to walk underwater when you pass through the gates of graceful mermaids at the entrance to the Mer-market. And take a copy of the notecard explaining how to lower the water fog for better viewing of all that’s here- things can get a little murky at this depth. Then walk through this watery fantasyland and you will be amazed! Not only are the builds decked out beautifully, but the underwater gardens surrounding complete with flora and fauna are spectacular. It’s almost impossible to name a few favorites here- everything in this sim is dazzling! Featured designer KamiHitoe has a beautiful water dance display- the animations are just gorgeous. Tekili-li has some of the most incredible mer-skins I’ve ever seen- the lion fish is one I can’t live without! Felixx Shepard of Davinci Gardens astonishes us all again with his beautiful display- but if you’ve ever been to his sim you’d expect no less- gorgeous work as always Felixx!

SciFi Rocks!

June 20, 2009

Teleport up from the auction area and find yourself literally out of this world. The shop area is breathtaking. A floating asteroid field is home to a number of stores that so far have luckily missed colliding with errant small planets and space debris. Better get here fast- the math says it’s just a matter of time. The whole mall is crisscrossed by translucent light bridges. Look below for a thrill. Whyroc Slade’s Sculpt Maps Galore is featured here- he’s got wonderful sculpts for builders. I had to have the garden walls! 2xtreme outdoes himself again with his display- that satellite is on my wish list too! Rebelmum Slade with Star Journey has an intriguing display about spiritual growth. Take some time to explore your inner self; you never know what you might find.
